Apple iPhone 8 to Feature Optical Touch ID Built Into the OLED Screen
The new Apple iPhone will bring some design changes to the lineup, with the inclusion of an OLED display and Touch ID placed directly below the screen, according to a new report by Economic Daily News, via Digitimes.
The report mentions that the iPhone 8 will use an optical fingerprint sensor which will unlock the smartphone when the user places a finger on the OLED display. The Touch ID will scan the fingerprint and automatically grant access to the phone, if it matches the previously set print.
The new optical fingerprint scanner will replace the Touch ID technology embedded in physical home buttons on previous iPhone models. As far as we can gather, the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus won’t come with the new technology, as the phones will continue to make use of the physical home button.
