Apple Purchases Wireless Charging Company Because Cables No Longer Make Sense

Apple has recently purchased New Zealand wireless charging company PowerbyProxi in an attempt to create what one executive has described as “a wireless future.”

While the terms of the deal have not been disclosed, Apple’s Dan Riccio, senior vice president of hardware engineering, explained in a statement for Stuff that what the firm is aiming for is a future without cables, probably not limited to iPhones, but also targeting other products in its lineup.

“We want to bring truly effortless charging to more places and more customers around the world,” he was quoted as saying.

At this point, it’s not entirely clear how PowerbyProxi’s technologies will be integrated into Apple’s portfolio, but the firm is building high-watt charging systems, and this could be a sign that Cupertino is aiming not only for faster wireless charging, but also for similar systems for products like laptops….
