VLC for iOS Updated with Support for iPhone X, Full Support for HEVC 4K Videos


VideoLAN released on Friday a new update to its VLC for iOS video player app, adding support for Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhone, HEVC 4K video playback, and various other improvements.

Dubbed VLC for Mobile, the latest version of the popular VLC Media Player for Apple’s iOS mobile operating system is now available in the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices running iOS 7 or later.

As expected, the biggest new feature of the VLC 2.8.6 for iOS release is support for the iPhone X, Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhone model that comes with a gorgeous 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display that’s completely different from previous iPhone devices.

Besides adjusted VLC’s UI for the iPhone X, VideoLAN also implemented full support for watching HEVC 4K videos if your iPhone or iPad device runs the latest iOS 11 mobile operating system and supports the HEVC 4K codec.
